Cars, trees and debris were swept from the mountains by the flood!
Yesterday afternoon's violent storm caused significant damage in Monteforte Irpino, in the Avellino area. A river of mud rushed down the mountain, which has also happened in recent years. The entire historic center was damaged and several cars were swept away to the upper part of the city. The roads in the flat part of the city were flooded, but no damage was done. However, the true extent of the damage in the historic city center needs to be quantified, as the residents saw a repeat of the tragic days of the flood two years ago.
Several fire engines arrived in the historic center of Monteforte Irpino to try to pump water and clear debris and mud. So far, there have been no reports of personal injuries, but further forecasts should be monitored. The intensity of the heavy rains has decreased, but has not yet stopped. After the mud and debris reached Piazza Umberto I, where the municipal offices are located, the flow began to decrease and this is where most of the debris accumulated!.
