Petr Pavel won the presidential election

In the second round of the presidential election in the Czech Republic, retired general Petr Pavel confidently defeated former prime minister Andrej Babis. He will succeed Milos Zeman, whose second mandate expires at the beginning of March, and there is no legal possibility for a third term.

According to the unofficial results, Petr Pavel won 58 percent of the votes, while his opponent got 42 percent. The participation rate was 70 percent, higher than in the first round.
On Saturday, polling stations opened at eight in the morning and remained open until two in the afternoon. The leading Czech politicians, Prime Minister Milos Zeman, Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and the two candidates already cast their votes on Friday afternoon.

Five years ago, the turnout in the second round was 66.6 percent, two weeks ago, in this year's first round, 68.24 percent of voters went to the polls.

There were no reports of disturbances or incidents.
