116 settlements can use this title
"I am happy to say that I am in the cultural capital of Europe" - this is how the President of the Republic Katalin Novák launched the year-long series of events. However, this year, in an unusual way, not only Veszprém bears the title of Cultural Capital of Europe, but also 116 other settlements in the vicinity, i.e. the entire Bakony Balaton region: Around 3,000 programs await those interested until the end of the year.

Regional Development Minister Tibor Navracsics was also born in Veszprém, and he is very happy that more foreigners will finally get to know the region.
Gyula Porga emphasized at the opening: Veszprém will not only benefit from becoming the cultural capital of Europe in 2023. From the HUF 74 billion budget, historical buildings that have been empty for 30 years were renovated, entertainment centers and roads were built, and there will even be a community electric bicycle system in the county seat.
Despite the heavy snowfall, many people were curious about the opening weekend. Families could visit numerous installations, exhibitions and open-air concerts. Dome-shaped mini-stages were set up in many places throughout Veszprém. The organizers dreamed that these were like the snow globes of our childhood, which just had to be shaken and the magic happened.
