Sri Lanka's new president, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been criticized by anti-government protesters for using violence against opposition protesters.
The protesters occupied the areas surrounding the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Hundreds of heavily armed soldiers and police attacked the population and acted violently against the demonstrators. The new president wants to follow in the footsteps of his ousted predecessor.
People don't like that only the name of the president changes, not the policy.
He further angered the population by ordering the police and soldiers into the streets, against those who helped drive the old president away.
